WHAT THE WORLD THINKS ABOUT THE PLANET:

80% agree we’re heading for environmental disaster unless we change our habits quickly.

BUT: 72% also declare they are already doing all they can to save the environment.

WHAT THE WORLD THINKS ABOUT INEQUALITY:

19% agree that efforts to promote equality for all groups of people have « gone too far » vs 47% who say we need to go further.

46% agree we have gone so far in promoting women’s equality that we are discriminating against men.

53% agree that when it comes to giving women equal rights with men, things have gone far enough in their country.

WHAT ARE BUSINESSES DOING ABOUT IT?

ESG issues occupy 4 of the top 10 risks according to risk experts (source Axa/Ipsos Future Risks report):
#1 Climate change
#5 Social tensions and movements
#6 Natural resources & biodiversity risks
#7 Energy

90% of ESG Council members agree that ESG is fundamentally changing the way business operates.

81% of Reputation Council members say poor ESG performance now has material consequences.

84% agree businesses have a duty to contribute to society, not just to make profits.

BUT: 52% say they don’t care if a brand is ethically or socially responsible, they just want them to make good products

WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS?

  • Nothing is ever granted; neither progress, nor equality… The question is how to continue on these fronts while managing backlashes and still find new ways to engage people?
  • Declarations are great; acts are better: with Europe’s CSRD first reportings being published this year, let’s see how this load of new data may help guide new impactful actions
  • Sustainability is not only an end, it should be a means: when it comes to consumer products and services, the basics remain delivering the value consumers expect
